Introduction about the programme:
The Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) is a four-year undergraduate programme that provides students with a comprehensive foundation in visual arts through an integration of studio practice, theoretical inquiry, research, and interdisciplinary learning. The programme has been designed in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and follows a flexible curriculum with multiple entry and exit options, enabling students to pursue their academic and professional aspirations through a learner-centric approach.
The programme introduces students to the fundamental principles of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, digital media, visual communication, art history, aesthetics, and contemporary art practices. It emphasizes observation, creativity, experimentation, conceptual thinking, and critical engagement with artistic processes while encouraging students to develop their own visual language and artistic identity.
Offered by the School of Culture and Creative Expressions (SCCE), Ambedkar University Delhi, the programme creates an interdisciplinary learning environment where visual arts interact with literature, performance studies, film studies, design, media, and cultural studies. Through studio-based learning, workshops, exhibitions, field visits, internships, community engagement, and research-oriented practices, students gain both artistic competence and intellectual depth.
The programme also integrates Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) by encouraging students to engage with traditional Indian art forms, indigenous crafts, material cultures, and aesthetic philosophies while relating them to contemporary artistic practices and global visual cultures. It promotes sustainability, innovation, and socially responsible artistic practice.
Graduates of the programme will be equipped with professional skills, creative confidence, research abilities, and critical perspectives required for careers in fine arts, design, education, museums, galleries, cultural institutions, creative industries, entrepreneurship, and higher education.
Vision Statement:
To nurture creative, critically engaged, and socially responsible visual artists through an interdisciplinary education that integrates artistic practice, research, innovation, and cultural understanding. Rooted in the principles of equity, inclusion, sustainability, and academic excellence, the Bachelor of Visual Arts programme seeks to empower students to contribute meaningfully to contemporary artistic discourse, cultural preservation, and creative industries at national and international levels.
