The BA in Sustainable Urbanism (BASU) is as an innovative interdisciplinary programme which is being offered in Karampura Campus since 2018. BA SU aims to prepare technically and analytically aware and socially-engaged practitioners. Graduates are skilled in evaluating existing urban practices after studying their social, political and ecological significance. The program is positioned at the overlap of urban studies, humanities and social sciences, and planning. We view similar programs at Leiden, The New School, University College London, and Hong Kong University as peers in this effort. Apart from doing courses in key areas of Urbanism and Governance, Technology, Materiality, and Environment, Field based Research/ Practice, there is a possibility of earning a minor degree in social sciences disciplines like Sociology, Political Science and History. Students will also learn from courses in General Electives (GE), Ability Enhancement (AEC and AEO), Skill Enhancement (SEC), Value-Based Education (VBE) and Community Engagement and Service (CES).
Students of BASU aiming to pursue MA programmes at AUD and other institutions or seeking employment opportunities after the completion of their degree, will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to compete in the charted fields. They will gain awareness of both disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives and will learn about the global process of change and its impact on urbanization at large. The courses are designed keeping in mind academic progression and transitions in terms of questions explored, material examined, and expected course outcomes.
