The Master of Design (Social Design) is a 2-year, full time, practice-based programme, Students are trained in the methods, tools and approaches of design disciplines with those of the social sciences to creatively address complex social issues through participatory and collaborative design methods.
The areas of focus are public services and systems (such as health, education, transport, waste, governance interfaces), community networks and livelihoods (pertaining to crafts, informal economies, built and intangible heritage, urban and rural commons), digital technologies (social media, user interfaces and experiences, privacy). Students are also introduced to entrepreneurial competencies and leadership to support them to establish their own enterprises while also providing internship opportunities in established organisations.

Online Teaching and Learning _ MS 2020
1. Which online interface are we going to use for online classes?
Google Classroom and Moodle will be used for online teaching in Monsoon Semester 2020. In order to streamline the process and minimize confusion for diverse users, it is recommended that no other platforms be used at the moment. All students and faculty are recommended to use their official AUD email account to join the classes to prevent any misuse of these platforms.
2. How and when have classes been scheduled this semester?
There will be a maximum of three online teaching sessions per day with a one hour gap aGer each class (Please refer to the timetables below). For effective and stress-free learning, all 4 credit courses will have a total of 3 hours of online lectures in synchronous mode with sessions not exceeding 1 hour 30 mins. Remaining time will be adjusted through asynchronous mode of teaching. This is devised keeping in mind the Assessment Policy of AUD, where each credit is equated to one hour of teaching or two hours of seminars/group work/laboratory work/field work per week for 16 weeks.
Thus, a 4-credit course entails 4 hours of regular teaching per week.
3. Will there be any a†endance requirements for online classes?
The attendance policy as per the minimum attendance requirement in the School of Design is 80%. Attendance in the synchronous sessions (online classes) will form the basis for calculating attendance percentage and will be recorded manually for online classes. Kindly bear in mind that attendance will be considered for all applications for fee waivers and student welfare funds as per University policy. Please make sure to inform the course faculty if you have any connectivity issues as soon as possible and not at the time of evaluations.
4. What will be the structure of online assessments?
Based on last semester's feedback and to balance the number of assignments across all courses it has been decided to have three assignments as part of every 4 credit course. The following assessment calendar has been created with assignments spread out over the month so that there is no overlap in any given week. Design studio assessments will happen every first week of the month, followed by core courses in the second week, school electives in the third week and university electives in the fourth week. This includes all subjects offered by the School of Design. For electives offered outside the school please consult respective course faculty.
5. Will we have access to readings/ study material required for the course?
SoG copies of readings and study material will be provided by respective course coordinators with careful attention to issues of copyright. Library is in the process of procuring necessary ebooks.
Open-licensed and open-access content may also be made available by the faculty as required.
6. Use of online resources particularly for assignments.
Please note that all online resources need to be sourced and quoted appropriately. Plagiarism is a serious offence and will result in failing the assignment / course.
7. What is the process for application for repetition of missed assessment situations?
As per UGC guidelines of July 2020, in case of a missed assessment situation for reasons deemed to be valid, students will be provided with a special chance to appear for the examination again. A formal application needs to be made with proper documentation to the Course Coordinator which will be submitted to the Dean via the Programme Coordinator for approval.
8. Communication incase of difficulties in accessing study material and classes online
Any difficulties in accessing study material and classes online needs to be communicated by all students in a timely manner. Please make sure to inform the concerned course faculty as soon as possible and not at the time of evaluations. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your respective course faculty or any SFC member for any assistance. Regular SFC meetings will also be held within the school to address any issues or concerns at a collective level. For specific concerns, you may contact the following:
1. Mental Health concerns and necessity of referrals - Assigned Mentor
2. Curriculum related concerns - Program Coordinator
3. Fees related concerns - Dean or Program Coordinator, to be forwarded to Student Services
4. Internship related concern - Internship Coordinator
