The B.A Honours with a Major in Psychology is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the discipline. The courses offered take students on a journey in which they engage with the complexities of human experience and behaviour. The programme is simultaneously theoretical and applied, and characterized by the use of diverse methods to investigate a wide range of questions about the nature of the human mind and self. The programme revolves around aspects of human experience that are deemed as universal as well as those that make us unique, and the manner in which these are shaped by our upbringing within the family, culture and society, and our own impulses and desires. The programme includes hands-on experience through practicums designed to teach experimentation, psychological testing and preparing a case study. Teaching is largely in an interactive mode, including lectures and experiential and immersive pedagogies. Films and popular narratives are used to illustrate significant aspects of courses. Students participate in dynamic classroom exercises such as peer learning, group tasks, role plays etc. to enhance the learning process. Core courses familiarize students with the history and methods of Psychology. Along with this they learn about cognition, childhood, neuropsychology, social and abnormal psychology. The elective courses are more interdisciplinary and show the applicability of psychological understandings in the areas of counselling, schools and industry, interpersonal relationships etc.

What is the duration of the programme?
This is a four-year programme with the option of multiple exits after one year( Certificate), two years ( Diploma), three years (UG Degree), and four years ( UG Degree with Honours/Research, subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria for Research Degree).
What are the intended aims of the programme?
Designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the discipline of Psychology, the programme aspires to enable the student to think critically and creatively as s/he engages with complexities of human behaviour and experience. It explores a wide range of questions about the nature of human mind and self in diverse contexts and aims to develop in the student an understanding of Psychology that is both theoretical and applied. It seeks to train the student in critical and analytical thinking which shall be supplemented by application based knowledge. These skills shall enable students to work in diverse fields employing a psychological lens.

They may also explore career opportunities in organizations which conduct psychological testing and assessments for recruitment, selection and training.
