The BA in Global Studies(BA-GS) exists in dialogue with the burgeoning undergraduate Global Studies programmes being offered in Universities across the globe. BA-GS brings together the best that these existing programmes have to offer along with students’ already existing lived experience of the global, to explore and learn from in the vibrant debates, popular and scholarly, regarding the processes of globalisation and globality. The BA-GS programme will follow both the terrestrial veins of globalisation as well as engage students in questions of decoding the complex, networked infrastructure that is being increasingly studied as producing the age of the Anthropocene and which informs the idea and the experience of globality in this programme.

BA-GS courses begin by asking, Where is the global? What is globality? What is the time of the global? The programme’s focus on regions such as the Indian Ocean, Himalayan region, Africa, the Americas and Asias, for instance, foregrounds the importance of geo-historical thinking when it comes to developing the global perspective required for thinking globally. In turn, this spatial historical perspective allows students to productively engage with both the global present as well as anticipate critical elements that will make up the emerging field of global futures.

Finally, the BA-GS programme takes undergraduate education to be a potentially terminal stage of education for many students. As such this programme offers the rare opportunity within Indian undergraduate education to develop a perspective that is increasingly informing employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. The programme will not only equip students to make sense of the world through theory and frameworks, but also provide the necessary skills (through language, data analytics, etc.,) for them to both take advantage of the opportunities that come with change, as well as become leaders of that change. Additionally, BA-GS will help prepare students for higher study in any of the social sciences and humanities disciplines or in emergent interdisciplinary fields like Development Studies, Human Ecology, Cultural Studies, Policy Studies, Legal Studies, etc.

The Discipline courses are divided between 3 discipline areas of  Global Humanities, Geopolitics and Global Political Economy. The BA-GS program provides a well-rounded liberal arts degree that will help prepare students for a variety of careers in the international arena. BA-GS graduates will bring to existing employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, the unique perspective and insights that are to be gained from also having studied the global dimension to local issues.

The inclusion of Geopolitics from 2024 cohort as a thematic would give students an understanding of the conceptual underpinnings, debates, issues and emergent concerns in the multidisciplinary field of Global Studies. These courses may add value to the BA GS programme and make it contemporary, employable, inclusive and holistic.
