The programme aims to question, study, and critique the various forces influencing the discourse of education and respond by creating alternative pathways. It intends to nurture research scholars who develop the capacity to study the changing landscape of education and the critical issues in the various sites of practice. It intends to develop evidence based approaches to promote equity and social justice. The programme is designed to enable candidates to engage in rigorous scholarship and enhance the existing literature in the field with high quality research. The courses will encourage candidates to examine topics through multiple lenses grounded in different disciplines.

The School of Education Studies at AUD envisions their doctoral scholars to be at the leading positions in academia and various sites of educational policy and praxis. To assume such a position, they need to be reflective independent researchers and be well-versed with educational theory, and practices in various sectors in India.

Objectives:

  • Increase the number of research scholars who are aware of the issues related to education and are able to engage in rigorous study of these topics independently
  • Enhance the number of research studies in various areas of education particularly from the standpoint of promoting equity and quality
  • Promote innovative evidence based practices by way of exploring and initiating alternative pedagogic models

Programme Outcomes:

  • Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research studies with academic rigour.
  • Follow research and academic ethics when conducting any study or writing on a topic
  • Develop an integrated understanding of education and related disciplines through coursework.
  • Critically examine political and socioeconomic contexts in which education programmes are situated
  • Contribute to curriculum development, policy development and planning of educational schemes.
  • Acquire the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses and develop awareness of various pedagogic practices in higher education.
