Course Description:
This course will motivate students to develop 21st century skills to deal with various challenges. Students will also understand action research and will be able to conduct it for the improvement of Political Science practices. They will develop leadership attributes with psychological, sociological, and philosophical perspective. Therefore, the course highlights the need and significance of continuous professional development of a teacher. Students will also understand about assessment which serves the dual purpose of tracking the performance of the learners as well as feedback mechanism for effectiveness of teaching. This pedagogical course of Political Science provide details about the concepts of assessment and evaluation, tools and techniques of assessment in Political Sciences.
Course Objectives:
- To develop an understanding of the scope of research and innovation for political science pedagogy
- To develop innovative practices to enhance effective communication to be a dynamic and innovative Political Science teacher.
- To integrate ICT in transaction of political science pedagogy and reflect on it
- To develop an understanding on skills required for political science teacher
- To understand and use different methods of assessment
Course Outcomes:
- Demonstrate an understanding about the need and scope of research in teaching-learning of political science
- Plan and conduct action research in teaching-learning of political science,
- Describe the meaning, need and scopes for innovations in teaching-learning of political science
- Develop and use innovative activities in teaching-learning of political science
- Enumerate the characteristics of innovative practices
- Plan action research to improve practices of political science
- Critically examine and apply the different methods of assessment in teaching learning process.
- Construct and administer achievement test
Brief Description of Modules
Module 1: 21st Century Skills for Learning
This module will also focus on the psychological, sociological, and philosophical perspective of teaching and learning Social Sciences. From a philosophical perspective, we may discuss questions about care, morality, democracy, ideological indoctrination, teachers’ biases, and controversial teaching issues. The sociological perspective may focus on the selection of knowledge and representation of different social groups’ voices, experiences and aspirations. Thus, questions of gender, caste and culture may be brought in. The psychological dimensions may engage with the appropriate stage to introduce certain themes, about the selection of the pedagogic approaches, and content. The qualities of a Social Sciences teacher as a professional for enhancing teaching learning skills and promoting constitutional, democratic, humanistic values that form the key rationale of Social Science and Political Science will be discussed.
Module 2: Assessment and Evaluation in Political Science
This module delves into the fundamental concepts and practices of assessment and evaluation in Political Science education. It emphasizes the role of assessment in enhancing teaching and learning outcomes while fostering critical thinking and analytical skills among students. The module also highlights the importance of formative and summative evaluations, ensuring that assessments are designed to align with the disciplinary goals of Political Science.
Module 3: Research and Innovative Practices of Teaching Political Science
Research and innovation will help student teachers in developing new ideas, approaches and implementing them to the changes around us. Students will understand various approaches, methods and techniques to reflect, examine and attempt to solve the problems around them. This can help to understand the diversity of learners and learning experiences. These researches may focus on how students understand concept and what knowledge do they bring to the classroom across different schools. This may also take the form of action research.
