Brief description of the modules:

Module 1: Research and Innovative Practices

Research in teaching of the English language is critical for the student teachers to gain an understanding of various approaches, theories, and methodologies regarding the transaction of language among young children. This module will focus on two aspects of research and innovation relevant for language pedagogy. First, it will focus on observation and analysis of independent reading and writing among young children and examine the insights into how children read and write and provide implications for the support they may need in the classroom. Second, student-teachers will develop one-two research-based strategies. These could be a role play/theatre designed in the context of grade-appropriate children's literature.

Module 2: ICT Integration

With the rise of digital technologies, it is important to explore ways to utilise the same in language learning. Teachers could enable students to use computer-assisted language learning tools, explore online platforms offering English language courses, to understand how interactive lessons, exercises, and quizzes can be used for teaching of grammar, vocabulary, listening, and speaking practice in the classroom. However, it is important to keep in mind that students need access to the technologies suggested, the quality of material available needs to be carefully monitored and awareness needs to be built for issues of security and privacy.

Module 3: Learning about how to learn

This module will focus on the ways by which a teacher navigates language learning in the classroom vis-a-vis their own experiences. A documentation of their own language and literacy histories enables student-teachers to begin their engagement in this process and also reflect on the processes and contexts that foster reading. Student teachers will document processes that create opportunities for active engagement, encourage critical thinking, and scaffold learning experiences to meet the needs of all learners. The module will also focus on ways by which language teachers can engage in ongoing reflection and professional development to develop better strategies and focus on inclusivity. They will critically evaluate their instructional strategies, analyse student learning and find ways to provide supportive strategies.
