Course Description: This course aims at enabling student teachers to recognize the importance of good health, fitness, and the right nutrition to live a healthy life. It also provides students with the necessary experience of organizing and participating in sports and games. The curricular component of ‘Sports, Nutrition and Fitness’ is designed to expose student teachers to the physio-emotional issues in society and individual-supported development activities so that classroom leanings can be supplemented by life experiences to generate solutions to real-life problems. The course will help the learners to strive to create more inclusive and equitable environment through well-beingness.
Course Objectives:
- To understand the importance of basic health and nutrition and healthy lifestyles and its impact on learning
- To explore the psychology of sports and methods of teaching in different sports
- To study the framework of Sports for children with disabilities and inclusion
Course Outcomes:
- Explain the importance of sports, and the need and impact of sport for maintaining overall health
- Discuss physical fitness, and the methods of teaching and organization of different types of sports
- Explain the importance of physical fitness, describe different components of physical fitness, and identify activities that help maintain physical fitness
- Recognize the importance of basic health and nutrition and healthy lifestyles and identify food items that help maintain basic health and nutrition among children of different age groups.
Brief description of the modules:
Module-I: Understanding Sports
This module will explore the concept of the Sports. It will engage and explore the opportunity for learning with and by the Sports.
Module-II: Physical Fitness
This module will explore the idea and practice of Physical Fitness and its importance in learning. It will explore the existing types and patterns of physical fitness and utilise it as a resource for empowering learning-being.
Module-III: Nutrition
This module will explore the meaning, nature and importance of the nutrition for individual learning. It will also examine the various initiatives to ensure and promote the nutrition values for education.
