Objective:
- Objective of this paper is to train students in interpretation of heritage structures and antiquities through collective interpretation methods.
- For understanding archaeological objects this paper imparts knowledge on functionalist, structuralist and semiotic methods of object interpretation.
- These papers also elucidate both traditional and modern methods of communication used for cultivating awareness.
- Conservation of archaeological sites and scientific measures, methods of cultural resource management and use of different tools, equipment and chemicals are the most vital objectives of these papers.
Learning Outcome:
- Interpretation ability for monument interpretation.
- Learning of documentation methods for archaeological sites, heritage structures and monuments etc.
- Understanding of conservation methods for stone, mud and brick structures.
- Learning of project monitoring
Modules:
- Structural and Semiotic Analysis: Methods for understanding material configuration as well as symbolic meaning of monuments and their motifs.
- Multimedia and computer Reconstruction: It provides technical information on use of computers, multi-media and cinematographic technologies in managing, marketing and presentation of archaeological data with focus on visual reconstruction for display in museums.
- Cultural Resource Management: Disaster management of World Heritage Sites and Heritage Information Management are some of the components of this module.
- Structural Conservation: It includes chemical and structural methods of conservation of historical sites and monuments. It also focuses on indigenous methods of conservation and their relevance.
Indian Knowledge System:
This paper brings to fore traditional Indian methods of cultural conservation like Thirumanjanam, and Kumbhabhishekam. Apart from that it elaborates traditional methods of communication like Gatha, Charit Sahitya and Raso Sahitya.
