Objectives of the Course:

  • It intends to provide students comprehensive information on museum's functional rationality and social accountability.
  • Practical learning of architectural designs of museum is explicit in this module.
  • Museum management and administration is the main objective of this paper.
  • It focuses on museological pedagogy and modes of museums education too.

Learning Outcome:

  • Understanding of utilization of space within museums for storage, display and public amenities.
  • Developing skill for Total Quality Management and Creative Management for museums.
  • Training in museography and support - services like museum photography, modelling, packing and transportation of antiquities.
  • Broadening of ideas on social- cultural and educational roles of museums.
  • Learning of museum literature, editing and publication.

Modules:

  • Museums: Architecture and Space-design: The functional space of museums and the role of building in environmental control and preventive construction is the main subject of discourse of this module. Space for display and storage are vital aspects of the curatorial functions that have been incorporated in it.
  • Creative Management: Museums being dynamic social institution need creating management system for their growth. This module explains technical staff structure that plays important role in total quality management.
  • Support Services: Museums need various support services like photography, modelling, carpentry, lighting for display, etc., for the purpose of ideational and educational display. This module purports to provide practical knowledge of support services.
  • Social Accountability: The success of museum depends on its ability to influence the public at large. Museums throughout-reach programmes and publication cultivate public-awareness. For this purpose, museums organize different types of cultural and educational programmes. This module emphasizes on cultural and social role of museums.
