Pre-requisites:Students need to be familiar with Multimedia computer use.

Aim:The course develops use of digital methods of research, specifically working with graphic and audio-visual media as an social science research tool. This course provide an opportunity to students to envision alternative and innovative routes , like oral narratives and history, to approaching social science research in class and infurther education.

Course Outcomes:

  1. To develop digital story telling and narrative making skills, both self generated and based on listening to others.
  2. To develop inter-personal research skills of interviewing and audio recording
  3. To prepare students with basic technical skills for handling audio-visual equipment to carry out recording, editing and dissemination, both on-line and off-line.

Brief description of modules/ Main modules:

  • Module 1: Storytelling and Communication, Locating the storyteller and the social in storytelling
  • Module 2: Visual and Digital techniques, Elements and Practice.
  • Module 3:Using memory and experience ; Histories of everyday lives and livelihoods as sources of intangible knowledge.
  • Module 4: Developing Oral Narratives – methodologies and interpersonal processes; . Co-authorship and contributions.
