- Dr. Urfat Anjem Mir completed his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi, India, in 2004. For his doctoral thesis, he studied the impact of violence on the mental health of adolescents in Jammu and Kashmir with a focus on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
- Prior to joining Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) in 2011, Dr. Mir was a faculty at the Rinchen Shah Center for West Himalayan Cultures, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir from 2009–2011. He also held a brief stint as a Police officer and Indoor faculty at Shere-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, the academy for training Jammu and Kashmir Police Officers.

- Dr. Mir's broad area of specialization is social anthropology and medical anthropology, focusing on the anthropology of violence, conflict, and social suffering. He draws from interdisciplinary works, especially anthropology, psychology, and psychiatry. He has undertaken a few research projects funded by various national and international agencies like IUST, ICSSR, Govt of NCT Delhi, Indiana University Bloomington, USA, and GiZ India.
