Dr. Yogesh Snehi’s research focuses on the social and cultural history of Punjab and South Asia, with particular emphasis on popular sacred shrines, especially Sufi sites. Engaging with religious identities, territoriality, memory, and the longue durée of region formation, his work critically interrogates communalized historical narratives and offers nuanced insights into sacred geographies and localized processes of social formation.

Snehi’s PhD thesis explored state development, education, and gender dynamics in aftermath of formation of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana in 1966. His fellowship work at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla (2013–2015), developed into a monograph Spatializing Popular Sufi Shrines in Punjab: Dreams, Memories, Territoriality (Routledge, 2019). His edited and co-edited volumes include Modernity and Changing Social Fabric of Punjab and Haryana, and his research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as The Indian Economic & Social History Review and Economic and Political Weekly. He is actively engaged in interdisciplinary and collaborative scholarship, most recently published in Brill’s Encyclopedia of Sikhism and on-going joint project Keywords for Punjab.

Beyond the academy, Dr. Snehi contributes regularly to The Tribune and other platforms, writing on heritage, memory, and cultural history. His commitment to public scholarship is reflected in his podcasts, public lectures, and consultancy work for initiatives like the Abohar City Museum. Fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Bagri, he integrates historical inquiry with public history.
