Applicants need to have a Bachelors/Masters degree in any discipline with minimum 45% marks or equivalent grade from a recognised university (Relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/PwBD/D-OBC (NCL)/Defence/KM). Desirable: 1 year work experience in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education.

This programme is one of the very few ECCE focused Master’s degree programmes available in India. The MA programme involves rigorous engagement theory, practice and policies in ECCE. It has been conceptualised with the aim of creating human resources to support professional upgradation of quality of planning, supervision and management of ECCE programmes for young children. It also provides an in-depth and scholarly understanding of ECCE as a discipline, anchored in various disciplines including child development, sociology, history, critical pedagogy, psychoanalytic frame and anthropology.

The Masters in Education (ECCE) will help to develop graduates who have a holistic understanding of issues in this field and can promote quality early childhood programmes through their teaching, research, and advocacy.

Objectives:

  • Create knowledgeable early childhood personnel in the field of early childhood care and education.
  • Engage students in the existing literature in this field
  • Participate at various sites of early childhood care and education through a series of field attachments to experience the reciprocal relationship between theory and practice.
  • Pose problems, engage in collecting evidence to address questions and develop appreciation for evidence based practices and scientific inquiry.

Programme outcomes:

  • After completing MA Education (ECCE) Programme, students will be able to:
  • Demonstrate a critical engagement with early childhood care and education discourse, theories, and practice.
  • Identify and engage with multidisciplinary perspectives in early childhood care and education to develop a holistic understanding of educational practice
  • Situate early childhood education practices in historical, political and socio-cultural contexts, both locally and globally.
  • Critically think, reflect, and analyse arguments, claims, evidences and problems related to early childhood education in India.
  • Pursue guided and ethical research study and demonstrate the ability to analyse and synthesize information to address research questions.
  • Demonstrate analytical and professional skills related to teaching-learning, teacher education, curriculum and material development, education policies and programmes across different levels of education.
  • Review and contribute to development and planning of curriculum, education policies and programmes for young children.
