Minimum Eligibility will be Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade from a recognised university (Relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/PwBD/ D-OBC (NCL)/Defence/KM).

MA Criminology is a stimulating and challenging two year programme, involving an exhaustive understanding of advanced understanding of crime and criminal justice. Drawing from diverse disciplines such as sociology, psychology and law, the domain of criminology attempts to provide a critical perspective on issues of crime, justice, law and society. This course develops an understanding of a range of modern criminological perspectives on crime and social control. One will be better able to identify the key issues, queries, dichotomies, and concepts that have influenced contemporary criminological thought, comprehend the nature of "theory" and "explanation" in criminology, and both appreciate and evaluate the evolution of criminological thought.

The Programme is of two years duration with four semesters and 80 Credits. A semester is 16 weeks long with 12 weeks of teaching.
The programme has nine core compulsory papers (45 credits) and four electives (20 credits) along with a field visit paper in first semester (3 credits), an internship in third semester (4 credits) and a dissertation in the fourth semester (8 credits).
This programme is a blend of conventional classroom learning (which provides theoretical and conceptual inputs) along with extensive non-classroom learning, interactions, field visits and internships to criminal justice organizations which in turn will facilitate the development of the right attitude, skills and knowledge base of the students.

A criminologist analyses all aspects of crime with the goal of preventing crime and criminal behaviour. Therefore, the application of criminology into practice mainly lays in Prevention, Intervention, Prosecution, Rehabilitation, and Restoration in Criminal Justice Administration. Typically, the major employers of a criminologist can be police, prison and probation services, court, child protection services, security services, non-profit making organisations including the charities that work with young offenders or victims of crime, Central or State Government, academic institutions, human rights organizations, national commissions, international organizations like UNICEF, UNDP, ILO, UN Women etc. A trained criminologist can work as an advisor to Criminal Justice Policy makers through research findings that address the ground realities, as crime investigator/detective, crime intelligence analyst, social welfare officer, probation officer, victim support/counsellor, social researcher, child protection officer, cyber security expert etc.
