How does the course link with the vision of AUD and the specific programme(s) where it is being offered?

AUD considers it to be its mission to create sustainable and effective linkages between access to and success in higher education. Against this background, the MVoc (Tourism and Hospitality) imparts practical training to its post graduate students to enable them to pursue full–time or part–time tertiary education. It is an industry related specialised industrial training. The programme is in alignment with National Skill Qualifications Framework. The course aims to bridge the gap between the skill-profiles of the students and those that are required by the industries in the job market.

The current course in field trip and reporting comprise of basic exposure to the students in the field related to hospitality and tourism. Students will be sent to a week trip to a particular destination or a particular hospitality organisation where he will be gaining the knowledge about the overall management and its operations.

Course Details:

Summary:

This will be an exposure visit comprising of four credits of Field Visit along with two credit of report writing about the area visited. The students will undertake two types of field visits. The university organises visit to an area with Hospitality or Monument Field Visit, for example, a Boutique Hotel to give them understanding on practices and feasibility of hotel aspects. In addition to these organised field trip, students visit local monuments, heritage sights and important tourism destinations. This Field Trip has been designed keeping in mind the Sem one exposure of M.Voc whose role is in the field of hospitality and hotel operations, staffing, client management, developing business and administration. The Field Trip exposure in the course focuses on the various skills and knowledge needed by the students to meet the requirements of their M.Voc in Tourism and Hospitality. The course has in built practical component of 60 hours with a weightage of 4 credits to be completed in, (Semester 1) with a report submitted for a weightage of two credits.

Objectives: The objective of the course is to familiarise the students with the Tourism and Hospitality industry and its various aspects.

  • Familiarize students with the basic exposure related to the management in Hospitality and tourism Industry.
  • Understanding of hospitality management processes.
  • Know the importance of guest service, customer delight in hospitality and tourism sector.
  • Provide basic knowledge on tourism destination product
  • Develop such competencies related to maintaining appropriate, health, hygiene and safety in the hospitality and tourism workplace.

Expected learning outcomes: On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:-

  • Analyze concept of hospitality and tourism with different establishments such as hotel/monuments/travel agency.
  • Prepare field visit reports based on the identified groups.
  • Understand basic theme setups & its arrangements.
  • Discuss the process related to maintaining appropriate etiquette, health and hygiene and safety of the workplace.
  • List out basic plan for layout of reception areas in hospitality and tourism.

Overall Structure: The Course is geared towards the Sem 1 of M.Voc –T&H and comprises basic training for learning Basics of Hospitality and Tourism. These basic skills are essential for the M.Voc-T&H; and are interlinked with each other. It is a 6-credit course with practical components of 90 hours.

Pedagogy:

Students will be undergoing field visit which will be giving training exposure & orientation through shop floor working.

Linkages with external agencies (e.g., with field-based organizations, travel agencies; any others) – Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skills Council, and industries
