Training as envisaged in the MA in Conservation program by concentrating on the study of Structural and Architectural Anatomy leads to protection and preservation of various heritage.

This course is core course for MA in Conservation, Preservation and Heritage Management it enhance the understanding level of the student in term of Architectural and Structural anatomy with prognosis and Diagnosis of the Heritage Building.

- Summary:
Conservation of Cultural Heritage is one of the important aspects for any nation to use as a soft tool for diplomacy, national pride and one of the pivotal sources of tourist attraction. Heritage management, education and training become one of the major thrust in all over world but in South Asian countries are too behind from European countries and other developed countries . Therefore this course has to be introduced at AUD i.e. Unique in its kind with blending of multidisciplinary approaches in its MA Conservation preservation and Heritage management Program. It is important paradigm shift in advance studies in Conservation of Cultural Heritage.
The course will focus on studying the role of Conservator/ Heritage Manager in the field of Archeology, Museology, Tourism and Conservation. The Topics will be covered related over all aspects of Conservation and degree of Intervention. The Structural anatomy, Architectural evolution, Components of Landscaping interlocking-system, spacial organization, settlement pattern , religious and civic architectural heritage’s components with different conservation techniques, the traditional methods as well as advanced techniques will be covered with in the preview of ethics of Conservation on National and International standard .

- To introduce students about, The idea, origin and anatomical study of the architecture with causes of Defects, Deteriorations, Conservation and Preservation techniques.
- To understand the role of Conservator/ Heritage professional to drive independent and holistic approaches toward Conservation of Archeological Sites/finds with proper showcasing and promotion of the Sites/Finds.
- To understand the implications of changing Documentation and Conservation Techniques.
- To introduce students to formal and non-formal landscaping at the sites.
- To understand the nature of Building material, techniques, methods of Execution ancient and modern retrofitting.

The course will start with the basics idea and origin of Architecture from prehistory to Colonial Architecture. The course also covers landscaping part of pre-historical, proto-historical historical /Archaeological sites with indigenous and advance conservation techniques. The overall material to be covered is split in to four modules as follows:

This unit introduces the Structural Consolidation and repairs Structural failures, and stresses and their patterns, Under pinning, rock bolting, filleting, jacketing, grouting etc. Temporary support, propping and strutting, reconstruction Foundation strengthening, nature of soil, failures, consolidation etc. Restoration and conservation of Architectural Decorative Elements like Inlay, stucco, tiles, glass and mirror work and field studies in conservation Archaeological sites/Excavated Remains Nature of Archaeological sites/ excavated remains Documentation and field conservation measures and preservation of excavated sites. Spot preservation and site lab work. History of Archaeological conservation in India Salvage and transplantation of archaeological sites, monuments etc.
