Introduction about the programme:
The BA programme in Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) can be best described as an immersion in interdisciplinary Humanities. It allows students to explore three disciplines/disciplinary areas of the School in some depth over three/four years while obtaining the wider benefits of a liberal arts education. Students admitted to Social Sciences and Humanities complete their core course requirement by choosing five core courses each from any three disciplines. Apart from the three discipline course component, the rest of the graduation rules remain the same as any other Honours programme.
The SSH programme is an interdisciplinary undergraduate curriculum aimed at equipping students with a solid grounding in the liberal arts, while actively engaging with current social, political, historical, and cultural matters. Offered by the School of Undergraduate Studies (SUS), this programme invites students to investigate themes of identity, power, inequality, and justice across a variety of fields, including Sociology, Political Science, History, Economics, Psychology, Maths, and Literature.
The programme prioritizes critical thinking, social involvement, and intellectual adaptability, allowing students to comprehend their environment and envision a more equitable and inclusive future. Through a mix of core courses, electives, fieldwork, and writing-focused seminars, students are motivated to question prevailing narratives and engage deeply with real-world challenges. Students gain the ability to comprehend and deal with complex social challenges in both local and global contexts through seminars, fieldwork, and group projects. A varied faculty dedicated to encouraging candid discussion and introspective practice teaches the courses.

Objectives of the Programme:
- To provide students with the opportunity to investigate and synthesise information from literature, economics, sociology, political science, history, psychology, and philosophy, among other fields.
- To foster a thorough awareness of issues pertaining to social justice, inequality, democracy, gender, caste, and ecological sustainability—all of which are essential to AUD's commitment to an inclusive and just society—and to push students to critically examine the structures of power, identity, culture, and knowledge.
- To equip students with skills in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, allowing them to perform independent research grounded in ethics and to address intricate social issues.
- To connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience through fieldwork, internships, and community involvement, promoting a tangible understanding of social sciences.
- To enhance written, verbal, and visual communication abilities via academic writing, presentations, and project collaborations—vital for careers in public service, academia, media, development, and beyond.
- To cultivate values of empathy, tolerance, and active engagement in civic life, reflecting Ambedkar University’s commitment to nurturing informed and responsible citizens.
