  • Specific requirements on the part of students who can be admitted to this course:
  • All UG pass out students joining the MVoc Tourism & Hospitality Management programme with a basic degree specialised on Tourism & Hospitality. Students with UG degree and having work experience in the Tourism & Hospitality in specialised areas such as- F&B Services, MICE, Tour Manager and Catering Manager can also join in this course. Also aspirants with NSQF Level-7 certification will be eligible to join this course with UG Degree.

  • A batch size of about 20 students + EWS and Supernumerary seats.

  • How does the course link with the vision of AUD?
  • The current course in Accommodation management is directly correlated with the vision and mission of AUD, Accommodation management being a course directly related to social sciences as it include cleaning science, hygiene and upkeep of a guest room and public areas in a premise, furthermore AUD caters exclusively to the study of the humanities and the social sciences. University also aspires to mould its students into informed and sensitive professionals who will engage with their social responsibilities.

How does the course link with the specific programme(s) where it is being offered? Current course in Accommodation management is very much linked the proposed programme of Masters in Vocation in Tourism and Hospitality management. Accommodation management is one of the core areas of hospitality and tourism industry which deals with boarding and lodging of the guest who are travelling from their native place to some other place in quest of Business or Leisure. Furthermore, Accommodation is an important component of tourism and it is also included in the concept of 3A’s in tourism .i.e. Accessibility, Accommodation and Attraction. It is very much important to teach students regarding the Accommodation management course to make them skilful and job ready for the Accommodation industry.

Course Details:

Summary: Current course will focus on the management the day to day operations of housekeeping activities in the premises including budgeting, recruiting staff and monitoring performance.

Objectives:

  • To efficiently plan the day to day operations of the accommodation or housekeeping department in a premises.
  • To perform the staffing and organising of housekeeping or accommodation department.
  • To control the overall activates of the housekeeping department.
  • To maintain customer centric service orientation.
  • To maintain health and Hygiene.
  • To maintain safety and security of staff and guests.
  • To make budgets for the department.
  • To organise the hiring and training of employees
  • To efficiently plan and manage the laundry operations

The modules have also covered the various National Occupational Standards as per the Job role of Housekeeping/Accommodation Manager given by Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council(National Occupational Standards describe what individuals need to do, know and understand to carry out a particular job role or function) which are listed below:

(Week wise schedule) Week 1: The Housekeeping

Profession and Managing Housekeeping This module will describe the overall management of the housekeeping operations, role housekeeper, and various management theories.

Week 2: Planning Housekeeping operations, daily routines and systems: Student will be able to:

  • Learn about the inspection checklist
  • Understanding the self-supervision techniques
  • Know about the staff matrix
  • Learn about various frequency schedules
  • Understand various SOP’s
  • Know about man power planning

Week 3: Manpower Planning and Organising in Housekeeping: Student will be able to:

  • Explain the duty roasters
  • Explain the customer grievances
  • State the Customer satisfaction and loyalty
  • Understand the staff appraisals

Week 4: Housekeeping Essentials This module will guide the students regarding

  • Describe the various areas of housekeeping department and its scheduling
  • Explain the leisure facilities provided to the guest
  • Know about cleaning science

Week 5: Managing Guest Rooms and Public areas Student will be able to:

  • Describe the cleaning standards and procedures in housekeeping department

  • State the energy conversation in hotel operations

Week 7:Management of Inventory and Equipment:

Week 9: Managing housekeepingpersonnel:

Week 11: Laundry Management

  • Understand the Laundry management system in hotels
  • Know about OPL Explain the linen exchange procedures
  • Describe the laundry layout plan

Week 12: Trends in the Accommodation Operations and Management:

  • Describe the latest SOP’s used in the housekeeping department with special reference to the covid 19 protocols.
  • Explain the trends in the Housekeeping department
  • Explain the Interior Decoration (importance, classification and types)
  • Understand the role of computers in the housekeeping department (various software’s).

Pedagogy:

  • Instructional strategies: Blended approach will be used which will include texts, worksheets, YouTube clips, self-learning assignments, Housekeeping practical’s and, role plays regarding how to manage a housekeeping department in a premises.
  • Special needs: Housekeeping Lab which will include standard guest room, laundry, Housekeeping Pantry and all heavy equipment’s used in housekeeping.
  • Expertise in AUD faculty or outside: Internal Experts as well as experts from the Hotel industry having practical experience in housekeeping supervision.
  • Linkages with external agencies: Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council, various Universities already having specialised faculty and collaborations may be explored with various hotel chains where student can visit and learn about the housekeeping management.
