Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Delhi has, since its establishment in 2008, met several developmental milestones and has grown to become an important part of the higher education landscape in the NCR. Throughout, it has been committed to being a self-aware institution with a continuously evolving scope for introspection, reflection, and recalibration. The University, in its short existence, has engaged consistently in periodic self-reviews, assessments, and evaluations. NAAC self-study report of 2014 and 2020, internal reviews, and Annual Quality Assurance Reports since NAAC accreditation are some examples. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was formally set up in the university in February 2015 after the first accreditation process was successfully completed. The composition of the IQAC follows the guidelines and norms prescribed by NAAC and comprises the Vice Chancellor as the Chairperson, IQAC, and representatives of various stakeholders such as the management, the administration, teaching and non-teaching staff representatives, current students and alumni, industry, society, and other stakeholders. Apart from internal reviews and deliberations, the University also participates annually in the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking process.
Following the broad guidelines of its Act and drawing inspiration from Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s vision of bridging equality and social justice with excellence, the emphasis on quality assurance at AUD is on institutionalizing processes that create sustainable and effective linkages between access to and success in higher education.
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has been constituted with this mandate to actively engage with national policy guidelines and advise the University on ways to enhance the quality of academic and administrative practices aligned with the vision and core values for sustaining a quality culture. IQAC is responsible for the preparation of the annual quality assurance reports of the University, coordinating the NAAC accreditation process. The IQAC collaborates with schools, centres, and divisions of the University in formulating and implementing quality policies and processes, through the organisation of workshops and sessions such as those on framing of programme and course learning outcomes, integrating digital learning, design and use of MOOCs, and assessment practices, among others.
The University’s engagement with the vision and reform ideas of the NEP 2020 has also led to a systematic review of the academic practices and structures, and action points emerging from such deliberations form the basis of change and quality assurance measures since 2020. The Institutional Development Plan of the University has been prepared to align the growth trajectory of the University within the national policy and global higher education reform context, and sets a blueprint for all constituent units and stakeholders for instituting a robust, dynamic, and high-quality interdisciplinary teaching, learning, and research ecosystem in Delhi.
