Pre-requisites:

Aim: The objective of the course is to introduce concepts, processes, and methods of planning and managing operations both in manufacturing or service settings. Quantitative methods and use of software tools for operations planning and control will also be introduced with practical applications.

Course Outcomes:

On successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and articulate how operations management contributes to the achievement of an organization’s strategic objectives
  2. Appraise and apply forecasting methods as the basis of management’s planning and control activity
  3. Assess the difficulties of matching capacity to demand
  4. Apply basic principles to determine appropriate facility location and layout
  5. Identify the critical factors involved in inventory control systems

Brief description of modules/ Main modules:

Unit 1: Introduction to Operations Management (OM) (1.5 Hours)

Unit 2: Operations Strategy (3 Hours)

Unit 3: Demand Forecasting Methods (6 hours)

Unit 4: Quality Management (4.5 Hours)

Unit 5: Process analysis and capacity planning (4.5 hours)

Unit 6: Facility Location and Layout (4.5 Hours)

Unit 7: Aggregate planning (4.5 hours)

Unit 8: Inventory management (3 Hours)

Assessment Details with weights:

  • Group Assignments & Project 20%
  • Mid semester 40%
  • End semester 40%
